HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRIP
BUTCHART GARDENS
Butchart Gardens is one of the most exquisite garden jewels in all of North America. The Butcharts traveled the world and developed an Italian garden, a rose garden and a Japanese garden reflecting their international experiences. Since that time, Butchart Gardens has continued to expand. Over a million bedding plants are used each year to provide continuous color in this 55 acre garden from spring to frost. The gardens are located on the picturesque Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
WASHINGTON PARK ARBORETUM
The Washington Park Arboretum emphasizes trees and shrubs hardy in the maritime Pacific Northwest. It was established in 1934 and contains 20,000 trees, shrubs and vines with 4,600 different species of cultivated varieties from around the world. The collections are arranged to display their beauty and function in the landscape highlighting their natural ecology and diversity.
QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK
Queen Elizabeth Park has a commanding view of the beautiful city of Vancouver. The park is home to extensive gardens, an outdoor arboretum, and the indoor Bloedel Floral Conservatory. The arboretum area features over 1500 trees on this, the highest point in the city of Vancouver.
BLOEDEL RESERVE
Bloedel Reserve is a unique garden venue featuring 150 acres of scenic vistas located on Bainbridge Island, Washington. In addition to the lovely gardens and forests, the reserve provides a tranquil escape reflecting the influence of the conservation movement and reverence of Japanese gardening held by the founders, Prentice and Virginia Bloedel.
VANDUSEN BOTANICAL GARDEN
Though 55 acres in size, the VanDusen Botanical Garden is an intimate fairytale land in the midst of the city of Vancouver. There's a staggering array of plants and flowers at VanDusen: over 255,000 plants representing more than 7,300 taxa from around the world. One of the must-see features of the garden is the deceptively complicated European style hedge maze.
